"I wanted to become a head-forester once."
Everyone needs hope. In the book All Quiet On The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. This book is a very graphic at times. But, it is clear what the author is trying to convey. That, war is terrible and that people should not participate in it. And, that war represents terror and sadness.
The author of All Quiet On The Western Front tells his story by writing in a way that makes you feel that you are there. He writes about trench warfare in the most realistic way possible. In this book, Remarque writes about a company in World War 1. He writes about the horrors of trench warfare and all of the death that comes with it.
This book affected in many ways. I was both excited and interested but this book. At times while this book did make me feel sad I was always intrigued. This book made me feel like my worries are nothing compared to the thing that these people have to face.
"Then you can look out from the window across the fields to the two trees on the horizon. It is the loveliest time of the year now, when the corn ripens; at evening the fields in the sunlight look like mother-of-pearl. And the lane of poplars by the Klosterbach, where we used to catch sticklebacks! You can build an aquarium again and keep fish in it, and you can go out without asking anyone, you can even play the piano if you want to."
This book was a great look in on WW1 and how terrible it was. I feel like it was an extremely good way to show how people react to this situation. Some shut down and could not function under the conditions. But, some were changed forever.
I have to say one thing that has always been super interesting to me is how some people achieve so much in their lives. It's hard to comprehend how some professional athletes can then go on to be a surgeon or a scientist. Honestly it amazes me to even begin to think about how much work must have been out in in order to achieve what they have achieved. I can only hope to be like them. Everyone hopefully knows by now that I want to go as far as I can in baseball. I hope to one day have the work ethic to accomplish the many things I want to accomplish. If I accomplish these thing I know I will be a happier "sad old man" one day when we have all grown up and worn down.
So, I spent most of the morning playing xbox with my friends. After that I went to a movie. We went to see mall cop 2. I loves it. This honestly, was one of the most funny movies I had seen in a while. I think it was because this movie was one of the only movies I have seen for a long time with true humor. Let me define true humor. This is laughs that do not come from rudeness or swearing or any of that stuff. This movie was made completely with no exceptions made with TRUE humor. I definitely had a few belly laughs.
This weekend I had my first baseball game of the season. I had a very good time. I almost forgot how fun its was to leave for a entire day of baseball and enjoy every second of it. When, it was over I wished we had another game. Of course, being as tired as I was I wanted to go home and relax my legs that felt like were gonna fall off. But, like always my parents had to make us go to dinner afterwards. This just pisses me off. Do they not understand that I just played 8 hrs of baseball!?!?!?!?! I could have slept at 6 pm. Anyways, please everyone for now on before you do something like I did please tell your parents you are going home or that you are walking home.
Enjoying what you become, is what you will come to enjoy.
In everyone's life there is a point when they feel true happiness. A good example of that was my trip in Arizona. This was one of my best trips for many reasons. These times are very rare and sometimes you don't even realize you are having them. But, when you do realize these times, it makes them that much more special. When I was on a family trip in Arizona with my family is a great example of one of these times. We went ATVing riding in the camelback mountains. At about 1:00 pm we were off into the sandy desert. It was when I first floored the ATVING and almost flew off the back of it that I knew I was in for some fun.
Every trail we went on got increasingly harder until we could barely keep all four wheels of the ATV's on the ground. After a few hours I became desensitized to the fear of high speeds in the desert. I was driving with soaring speed on straight aways and drifting around corners instead of turning. It was at this moment that I realized this is what I am meant to do. Explore and enjoy life. The excitement of trying something like this for me, are the happiest times of my life. When, nothing matters except you and the fun your having and occasionally a mountain lion or rattlesnake you swiftly drive away from in fear.
If you do not have these feeling you are not advancing all of your capable emotional feelings. You are missing out on the best part of life. The part when you are not living your life. The times when you do not have to care, are the times you end up caring about and telling stories about your whole life.
All you can do that you will ever appreciate in the long run is enjoying your life. Because, when you think about it all of this preparation is only equipping you with the abilities to have an enjoyable life. So , if your always so stuck on one thing that happened, you are only eating away at your own time to truly enjoy your life. Who knows, you may never have another chance to do so.
The One That Should Not Return
"It Is the ones who are gone that are remembered”
What is harder? Remembering someones doings, or remembering someones purpose? Odysseus is staring death straight in the eye. He has returned from his great and long journey only to be faced with more obstacles standing in the way of the luxurious life he now deserves. The suitors who have been trying to take Penelope’s hand in marriage for the time since Odysseus was gone and presumed dead. Now, in order to earn his rightful place beside his wife he must now defeat all of the suitors in combat. This should not be a problem for Odysseus for this is only a small task compared to some of the other things he had to face in his long journey home. Odysseus shows that he will not back down to reclaim what is rightfully his.
Odysseus is a hard working, natural born leader. He lives on a island called Ithica where he lives with his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus. He is soon called to fight in the Trojan war. After many hardships he had faced in the war he begins to head home. He is met by many challenges on his way home like Calypso the nymph who he he was held captive with. He was also faced with a cyclops who he heroically overcame in one of the most famous stories of all time. He also overcame lotus eaters, circe the witch , cannibals, sirens, he even survived a trip to the underworld! "Next I told the rest of the men to cast lots, to find out which of them must endure with me to take up the great beam and spin it in the Cyclops' eye when sweet sleep had come over him. The ones drew it whom I myself would have wanted chosen, four men, and I myself was the fifth, and allotted with them". During, him being a captive of the cyclops Odysseus in order to escape stabbed the cyclops in the eye. This angered Poseidon god of the sea so you can imagine how this only made it harder for Odysseus to return home. "For me alone my strong-greaved companions excepted the ram when the sheep were sheared, and I sacrificed him on the sands to Zeus, dark-clouded son of Kronos, lord over all, and burned him the thighs; but he was not moved by my offerings, but still was pondering on a way how all my strong-benched ships should be destroyed and all my eager companions.
" But, after 20 years of hardship Odysseus returns home only to be met by 40 suitors that Odysseus must kill to reclaim his rightful place as King Odysseus.
The lesson I have learned from this book is that no matter how much stands in your way. And, no matter how many people do not want you to do well. If, you keep on pushing, and never give up, eventually in the end you will always get what you want. Odysseus is the perfect example of this although I would hope to solve my problems with less violence Odysseus shows tremendous amounts of perseverance. So much so, that even the gods could not stop him from returning to Ithaca.
You should always push on in life even if you want something that seems unreachable. Because, nothing is impossible. Some things will naturally take more time than other things you experience in life that you have to get through. But, that will only make it more worthwhile in the end when all has come together where it is meant to be.
Study hall is not "study hall". It is more like "play games in your ipad time hall". Literally, every single study hall it seems nobody is doing work. But, madden is the real culprit. This is because it is a very addicting game and it forces kids to play it a lot or they are penalized in game. Of course, us being kids we choose the game over the school work and this is why we have this gaming problem in study hall. Actually this tactic is used my many different games to lure kids back. One being clash of clans for example. If, you do not go on every day your base completely falls apart!
As many of you know. We are currently doing a project in Mr Fitz's class. This project is about a chapter of your choice from The Odyssey. Since as a lot of us agree this seems to be kind of a pointless task to the naked eye. So, lets make this interesting. Because we are all doing the same exact chapter in the Odyssey we should make it a competition. Best and most informative wins. As, you guys can see this was a satire post just to get one out of the way. Competition is off. And, I am sure there is a logical reason for doing this.
Visiting a relatives house is always one of the most dreaded moments in the world. But, when you get there it is not always that bad. For example, a few summers back I went to Washington for my grandmothers funeral. While, this was a sad visit it ended up being really fun. Like, my grandmother would have wanted. My aunt loves to gamble. So, we were up till about 2 every night we were there playing poker. This is also the trip I got my second dog. We were not expecting to get one. But, we just had to because of how he grew on us over the days we visited him at the kind womens house down the road. To this day that trip is remembered as one of the best.
