Something Like Christmas Only Comes Once A Year
By Patrick Romeri
As I sit at my desk waiting for the teacher to say "alright you can go now" I think about all the things I am going to do during Christmas break. Every year I feel that Christmas comes too slow and that everything else comes too fast. Christmas is a holiday that I like for many reasons. It can span from just watching a movie next to the fore in your living room to my personal favorite. Which is going to the mall with all the Christmas decorations and music. I start to feel that feeling that class is almost over. My teacher walks towards the white board to write down the homework for us to write down. Just after that the words were said just as I replayed them in my mind hundreds of times during the class. I love Christmas for many reasons. I love how it brings families together who rarely get to spend time together due to busy schedules. Everyone loves the presents but, unless I completely misjudge my values I do not think that is the true reason I love Christmas. To me, Christmas would not be close to as special as it is to me. I think I can say with complete confidence that Christmas is my favorite holiday.
Nobody ever said "I hate Christmas". The reason for that is because nobody dislikes it. Even people of other religions like the time of year because of the feeling of joy it brings along with it. The truth is if anybody almost nobody "hates Christmas". Over the years I have experienced all kinds of different Christmas's. For example, when my Dad's business is not doing as well as other times we do not have as much of a large scale Christmas. But, to me that's not important. Only, that I am with my family, whom I love so dearly. Christmas is also a time for me to reflect on the good the bad and the ugly things I had done throughout the year. This consists of sports accomplishments and defeats. This can also include academic victory and defeats. The truth is the school year is a time of up and downs and Christmas is the time to forget about the downs and focus on the ups. Focusing on the down time is for when your sitting in your bed at night having trouble sleeping. Everyone needs a little time to wind down during the year and Christmas provides that for many of us. It makes you feel more comfortable in the halls at school once you come back. Because, the winter can be a crazy time of little kids being cooped up for three months. Nothing demonstrates more relaxation to me then a good old Christmas. It seems like right when I am at the peak of my stress Christmas comes to save the day. For example, every school has mid-year exams right? But, when Christmas comes I know it's going to be okay.
The anticipation is building up. I know I am going to have a blast this vacation. All the things I can do this vacation. It seems as I walk through the door to see my mom's car with the decorations on it is when truly the best time of the year starts. True, I will forget about things we learned two weeks before as all the teachers will complain. But, let's be honest between then and now I am not even gonna think a second about it. It is nearly, if not impossible to not have a blast or at least enjoy the best and coldest time of the year.
Everyone, of any religion must enjoy this time because that is what it is for. If, you do not relax and have some fun Christmas has failed you and you have failed Christmas. Because, to not have fun on Christmas must take some serious well thought out plan that completely ruins the entire two weeks. This Christmas, everyone must spend some well deserved time with their families. I know that I will. Because that is what I do on a beautiful Christmas vacation.
